Can anyone apply for mentoring?
Yes. Hijaz Community welcomes people from all types of backgrounds. This includes people from different religious, gender,
language and ethnic backgrounds.
How much does it cost?
Hijaz Community provide free mentoring. All our work is voluntary and conducted by trained mentors.
What does mentoring involve?
The mentoring programme will touch upon every aspect of a human being’s life. We cover topics such as academia,
profession/careers, societal issues, personal development and spirituality. Mentees can choose to discuss particular topics if
they so wish. Mentoring is tailored around the needs of the mentee and is personalised to each mentee.
What should I expect from this programme?
We hope to provide a platform in which to open minds to allow people to move beyond our current limitations. We hope to
provide a holistic approach for the development of each individual. We develop the understanding of our role within society
and how we can improve upon our personal characteristics. Ultimately, we aim for our mentees to find practical meaning to
their lives by establishing a mutually agreed personal spiritual development plan.
Am I obliged to complete the entire mentoring programme?
Mentoring is fuelled by the desire of the mentee to progress and if at any point the mentee feels that the mentoring is not
suitable for them, they are free to stop the programme without any conditions attached.
Is mentoring by Hijaz Community the same as counselling?
This process of Mentoring is different to pure counselling. In counselling the Counsellor is someone to offload upon, whereas
in Mentoring the Mentor is trained to find solutions to the problems and offer a process of re-contextualising the Mentee's
life.
Can I bring my friends and family for mentoring in a group setting?
Yes. We also conduct group session in which many people can share mentoring sessions if they feel comfortable in doing so.
Does the information I share with my mentor remain confidential?
Absolutely. Our mentors are not allowed to divulge information personal to our mentees with other people.
